What is a Thai visa extension?

A Thai visa extension (extension of stay) is an application to the Immigration Bureau to stay longer in Thailand before your permission to stay expires. The extension period depends on the visa type – from about 30 days up to 1 year.

Where can I extend my visa?

Apply at the immigration office responsible for the area where you live – for example the Government Complex on Chaeng Watthana Road if you live in Bangkok.

How much does a visa extension cost?

The extension fee is set by the Immigration Bureau – currently 1,900 baht per application (not including service fees). The rate may change with official announcements.

What happens if my visa has expired and I haven't extended it?

Overstaying is fined 500 baht per day, and a long overstay can lead to a ban on re-entering Thailand. Always apply for your extension before your visa expires.
